In this issue of Industrial Process News, we are pleased to feature Easy Laser UK as our Laser Alignment Company of the Month.
When machinery is running well, alignment is rarely something anyone thinks about. When it isn’t, however, the consequences can quickly become very noticeable. Vibration, worn components, damaged belts and bearings, and unexpected downtime can all stem from something as fundamental as two components not being properly aligned.
It was this practical side of engineering that helped shape Easy-Laser UK. Established in 2016, the UK company was set up after its founders identified a gap in the market for specialist laser alignment products and, importantly, the technical support to go with them. Rather than simply supplying equipment, the aim was to give engineers across the UK and Ireland access to the tools, knowledge and support needed to carry out accurate alignment in the real world.
Today, Easy-Laser UK operates from two locations. Its sales office is in Chesterfield, while Nottingham is home to its calibration service centre and training academy. That combination is particularly relevant to the business: alignment is not just about buying a laser system, but understanding how to use it, keeping it calibrated and applying the technology effectively to different types of machinery.
The range itself reflects just how varied those applications can be. Its shaft alignment systems, for example, cover everything from the entry-level XT440 through to the more advanced XT770, as well as the intrinsically safe XT550 for hazardous environments. There are also specialist systems and brackets for wind turbine applications.
Then there are the belt and pulley alignment systems, including the XT190 BTA and D92 BTA. These are designed to help engineers identify and correct pulley misalignment, which is a relatively straightforward maintenance task that can nevertheless have a significant effect on belt, bearing and seal life, as well as vibration and machine efficiency.
Beyond rotating machinery, Easy-Laser’s geometric measurement systems tackle a different set of engineering challenges. Equipment such as the XT920, XT915, XT950 and XT980 is used for applications including measuring flatness, straightness, squareness, parallelism and bore alignment.
That breadth is perhaps what best reflects Easy-Laser UK’s customer base. From water and effluent treatment to marine propulsion, energy generation, wind power, oil and gas, gas compression and heavy industry, its systems are used across a wide range of working environments.
For Easy-Laser UK, the common thread is precision, and making that precision practical for the engineers who have to keep industry moving.
We spoke to Alan Susman, Easy-Laser Area Manager UK, who explained some of the company’s specialist offerings, “Easy-Laser offers the only transmission belt alignment tool with live adjustment and comprehensive reporting features, while our XT660 and XT770 dual-dot PSD laser shaft alignment systems are unmatched in the marketplace for ease of use, accuracy and application flexibility. This includes the specialised XT550 EX-rated system, designed for use in explosive environments.”
“Our Geometric laser alignment products remain at the forefront of industry product development with offerings in straightness, flatness, level and bore alignment products plus our all new XT915 flange flatness measuring platform with spinning laser transmitter.
To complement our product bouquet, we offer comprehensive product and application training and after sales service and calibration of our products in the UK.”
For Easy-Laser UK, the relationship with the customer doesn’t end when a piece of equipment leaves the door. As the UK and Ireland’s only exclusive laser alignment product supply and support specialist, the business has built its approach around being there throughout the life of the product, from choosing the right system and learning how to use it, through to calibration, support and whatever comes next.
That close connection with customers also feeds directly into product development. The Generation XT range continues to evolve, with new systems aimed at solving specific problems faced by engineers in the field. One of the latest additions is the Easy-Laser XT915 Flatness measurement system, designed primarily for applications such as wind turbine tower flanges and slew bearings. It can also be used for other flatness measurement work, giving engineers another practical tool when precision is critical.
Looking to the future, the focus is on building an increasingly knowledgeable local team while continuing to follow the wider development strategy of Easy-Laser AB. For customers across the UK and Ireland, that means having access to specialists who understand both the technology and the practical challenges involved in keeping industrial equipment running.
At the heart of it all is a fairly straightforward idea: make the technology easier for people to use. Straightforward software, comfortable and intuitive equipment, and accessible technical support are all part of that philosophy. By keeping the end user at the centre of product development, Easy-Laser aims to give engineers tools that fit into the realities of industrial maintenance, helping them get the job done accurately, efficiently and with as little disruption as possible.
