Leading the way in circular plastic solutions

In this issue of Packaging, Warehouse and Logistics, we have featured Trioworld as our Packaging Film Company of the Month.

Trioworld offers innovative and sustainable, high-performance polyethylene and polypropylene film solutions for consumer and industrial packaging, transport packaging, agriculture, hygiene and medical technology.

Its products span a vast array of sectors and specialisms, but its UK wing is predominantly focused on manufacturing high performance stretch films.

“We are quite unique, as we are one of only three true UK manufacturers of stretch films.” says UK Head of Load Containment, James Glanville, “Our vision is not to just produce cost-effective stretching, but also the best stretch film for the desired application.”

Trioworld looks at a total solution for businesses, always aiming to solve wider issues rather than simply supply products. James told us the company doesn’t focus on the cost per roll, instead they focus on a total solution for the customer.

“If they’re having issues with pallets going over in transit, if they’re having issues with film breaking; we’re able to use our technical expertise and our in-house testing equipment to diagnose the problem, then correct it and make that process a little bit smoother.”

This unique approach to customer fulfillment is thanks in part to the company’s independent status as a manufacturer. This independence means not only can Trioworld dedicate more time and resources to individual customers, but can also create highly bespoke products to top-quality specifications.

Trioworld’s manufacturing independence also means it can stay true to its core vision of sustainability and help build a truly curricular plastic film economy.

Sustainability is at the heart of everything Trioworld does. It is a key driving force for the business and the company has become well-known for pushing the boundaries of what is possible through product innovation and responsible economic, social and environmental operations.

For the UK, Trioworld’s dedication to sustainability is paying dividends for British clients. The current plastic packaging tax in the UK means that any plastic packaging that doesn’t contain 30% recycled content, is subject to a £228.82 tax per ton.

In response to this Trioworld has invested heavily in three recycling centres in Europe which produce recycled resins and allows the company to produce high-performance films with 30% PCR (Post-Consumer Recycled) content.

“The PCR side of things is really important to us.” James explains “We have the technical expertise and manufacturing capabilities which means nobody comes close to us in the marketplace and we can provide robust, practical solutions while retaining our environmental promise both for clients and our own operations.”

From April 2027, the plastic tax is changing, with PIR (Post-Industrial Recycling) no longer being exempt. This means companies who’re currently buying film with PIR recycled content, which accounts for over 80% of the UK market, will no longer be safe from the plastic tax and will have to source PCR material to remain immune.

Trioworld is at the forefront of PCR development and the utility of its self-owned recycling centres means the company is able to do low micron, high-stretch and high-performance films, with true 30% recycled content, which is additionally certified by a third party.

This commitment runs through the entirety of the Trioworld. Recently Andreas Malmberg, CEO of Trioworld Group, reaffirmed this by aiming to make the company the number one plastic film manufacturer for sustainability.

The company tagline is ‘Rethinking Plastic’ and according to James it’s a value that is lived daily throughout the organisation, “Our job as a company is to rethink how we produce plastic, how people use it and to limit that environmental impact the best that we can.” He says, “That is the overarching focus of the company, to rethink how we’re doing things at the moment and make sure that we create a better product for the environment.”

Buttressing this reaffirmation of its environmental goals, is a renewed investment by Trioworld in new machinery. This investment for the future is allowing the company to produce nano extruded machine film up to 76 layers, meaning the company can intersperse the PCR material throughout the film.

Looking forward, the company has made a commitment to up the PCR content in its products to 40% by 2030, beating the required minimum by 10%. It also is aiming to have 85% of its products contain recycled content alternatives by 2030 too.

Trioworld is committed to re-thinking plastic and becoming number one in circularity. It has carved out a space as a leader that actively pushes the industry forward, changing it for the better. This coupled with Trioworld’s unmatched production capabilities, means the company offers a service unlike any other and is changing the face of the sector.
