Innovating a safer tomorrow

In this issue of Industrial Process News, we are pleased to announce CoreAVI as our Safety Critical Experts Company of the Month.

CoreAVI is a global leader revolutionising the aviation, automotive and autonomous spaces with its safety critical innovations and inspiring cutting-edge technological advances. CoreAVI architects and delivers safety critical graphics, compute software drivers and libraries, embedded ‘system on chip’ and discrete graphics processor components and certifiable platform hardware IP. CoreAVI’s comprehensive software suite enables development and deployment of complete safety critical solutions for automotive, industrial and aerospace applications requiring certification to the highest integrity levels coupled with full lifecycle support.

CoreAVI’s Platforms for Safety Critical Applications Stack

From safety critical hardware to the complete safety critical platform, CoreAVI’s solutions support both graphics and compute applications including safe autonomy, machine vision and AI in the automotive, unmanned vehicle and industrial IoT markets, as well as commercial and military avionics systems.

Established in 2005 by Damian B. Fozard, CoreAVI was founded in the UK. Since 2008 the company has been headquartered in Tampa, Florida, USA, with offices in Canada, Netherlands, and Singapore.

In 2016, CoreAVI became the first company to provide the newest generation safety certifiable graphics/ArgusCore SC 2 (OpenGL SC 2) with certifiable programmable GPU shaders. In the same year, CoreAVI was the first to revolutionise GPU monitoring systems for safety certified cockpit display systems by displacing FPGAs with CoreAVI’s TrueCore (software-only) solution.

In 2020, CoreAVI expanded its expertise to include safety critical computer vision and artificial intelligence with their VkCoreVX™ SC safety critical implementations of Khronos’ OpenVX™ 1.3 industry standard API.

As specialists in software development and suppliers of up-screened semiconductor components software reliability in today’s aerospace, automotive and industrial sectors are paramount to CoreAVI’s activity. From the top application layer to the middleware, drivers, operating systems and hardware, CoreAVI addresses the entire safety-critical systems stack and the best practices to accomplishing system certifiability.

Propelling innovation, CoreAVI strikes the perfect balance between functionally safe development features, certification and costs. “Our products, services and partnerships deliver a compelling value proposition with cost-effective scalability. We have the added value of providing an entire software portfolio, enabling shorter certification time while reducing overall costs,” stated Neil Stroud, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development. This strategy effectively allows software developers to reuse software in safety critical applications, enabling them to efficiently scale across hardware architectures and shorten time to deployment.

Keen to further establish its partnerships with ecosystem players, Neil explained, “Functional safety is evolving and it’s vitally important we all work together. No one company can do it alone – we must collaborate to make the world a safer place. In essence, with our partners, we deliver pre-assembled jigsaw pieces that customers can instantly use, allowing them to get their products to market quicker. As safety is moving up the priority list for companies all around the world, we need to work together to achieve greater efficiency and safety to reduce injuries as our interactions with technology increases exponentially.”

CoreAVI is continually evolving at a steady pace as it pivots into new markets, developing close partnerships with semi-conductor industries. Recently, it announced a partnership with Intel® to provide a Platform for Safety Critical Applications (PSCA) with the new 11th generation Intel® Core™ i7 SoC. Built to reduce customers’ mission computer system integration risks and speed up their time to deployment, this case study is a prime example showcasing the benefits of two companies working closely together. It is also extremely beneficial to the product developer’s bottom line by saving them time, engineering resources and savings in platform safety certification.

As future plans go, CoreAVI is delving deeper into building industrial robotics and automation solutions and further its activity within the transportation and automotive sectors and will continue building partnerships to ensure increased safety solutions deployments.
